Krishnarao Bhavalkar (born September 24, 1945) is Professor of Statistics at IISc Bangalore since 1978.
He received the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Prize for Outstanding Research in Biostatistics in 1986.

Academic Background

He received his degree in statistics (Ph.D) from the Indian Statistical Institute in Delhi and received the degree of Doctor of Mathematics from the University of Manchester and has a master’s degree in Statistics from that institution.

He received the award of Fellow of Royal Statistical Society (FRSS) in 2004 for his contributions to Statistics in India. In 2015 he was elected fellow of the Academy of Science Leopold.

His PhD supervisor at Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi was D. P. Roy. He has supervised and/or co-supervised about 60 PhD student. He was the Editor of the Indian Journal of Statistics from 1988–92.

In recognition of his contributions in the field, he has received the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Prize for Outstanding Research in Biostatistics, the Best Paper Award of the Indian Statistical Association and The Ramanujan Memorial Prize of the Indian Mathematical Society. He is also the Vice President of ISCA and an Associate Editor of Indian Journal of Statistics.
