What is the opposite of “chaining” in ASP.NET? I want to “block” the current thread! Is there a better word than “stop” here?

I’ve got this function that grabs data from a database, and parses it using an XSD schema. (I have a function that I call “Parse(data:XsdClassType)” that takes the data it needs and creates its own type. This saves me from having to write my own type system).
The problem is, in the XSD schema there is a choice to set a property value (and only that value) to “required”. In my program I want to do the opposite of this. I want to have a default value (as in null), then only override that if a certain property is set, and if that property is set, then I change the default value of that property. So the general flow of my program is this:
Do X to “data”

[If (propertyX is set)] {
Do Y to data
If done Y
Change data.propertyX to a value

But it seems like this is something I’d only want to use the “chain” keyword for. But isn’t it the opposite of chaining? Should I use something more like “block”? And also, does this example only make sense for objects that don’t have properties, or would that be ok for simple properties as well? It works just fine for simple objects with one property though, I am just trying to phrase this in general terms.

Yes, you should use a word that doesn’t already mean something in your context.
Your code uses ‘chain’ without describing any chains, so perhaps something like ‘impedence’.
IMHO a better title for your question would have been ‘How do I use the “stop” keyword in English?’
As for your example: You’d put that ‘impedence’ on the required property on the XSD class that gets constructed
(if (propertyX is set)) {
Do Y to data
if (propertyX) {
