Lincoln Road Mall (FL)

The first time I visited Lincoln Road Mall was in early 2000. I was in Gainesville for a high school reunion after a long absence. Being the typical 20-something I had been to all their local malls at least once in my 20 years so of course I went back there as I didn’t want to miss that chance to try the new foodcourt. And since I wanted to revisit Florida, I was back in the US in 2001, 2002, and 2003. I loved visiting Lincoln Road and its “unofficial” start in the center of Orlando’s downtown core from a mall in a suburb.

A lot of things have changed since 2000. Most notably the number of retail space. When I first visited the mall, it was very crowded full in the middle of the day on weekends. A popular spot of people, in a very commercial area, full of restaurants and restaurants.

Now it has only 2 floors open at the center, with the rest of it closed. And it’s really busy on Wednesday and Friday evenings (late dinner or supper time) so I stopped visiting.

So now I am going back, to be a couple of times actually. The first time (Saturday, June 02, 2010) my family and I were visiting my sister in Orlando (see her photo) and had a nice dinner at The Tender Greens. Next time was for my nephew’s birthday (Monday, June 04, 2011). It’s a lovely day for Florida weather and a couple of years later, so it’s still cool for a summer afternoon. And we had the time to browse through the food court while they had a special 50% off Tender Greens coupon.

What’s really nice (what most of the local mall’s shops have today), is that everything is open, except Starbucks, because it’s still under construction. The mall features restaurants like Panera, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Freshii (that opened at the end of May), and there is also the famous Tender Greens. All the usual brands like McDonald’s and KFC are still here, and a few others. A great example of a regional mall,
