In recent years, it has become possible for a personal computer to be connected to a wireless LAN, and the wireless LAN connection has become widely utilized in daily life, for example. Also, there are cases where services using such a wireless LAN or a plurality of types of wireless LANs are provided. For example, a service using Internet Protocol (IP) addresses may be provided to a mobile telephone as it receives an IP message, and a service requiring a user authentication may be provided based on wireless communication methods. Also, a service using Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) communication (e.g., wireless telephone, wireless personal digital assistant (PDA)) may be provided in some cases. In addition, a service requiring personal authentication may be provided when a user requests a network service. If any of the above service is provided, there is a need for providing information such as the IP address used to provide the service, to the terminal. Also, another need that is present is for a connection for providing information such as the IP address to the terminal is to be performed without involving the terminal.
As a wireless terminal is made smaller in recent years, it is increasingly difficult to provide a certain device (e.g., a wireless LAN terminal) of the wireless terminal with an additional antenna in addition to a typical antenna for the terminal. To solve this problem, in order for a base station to supply the terminal with a plurality of types of signals (e.g., an IP packet for the terminal), it becomes necessary for the base station to have a plurality of transmitting/receiving antennas according to each of the signals, and thus, the cost of the base station becomes high.
A technique has also been disclosed wherein, when performing a wireless communications service by using the wireless telephone or not by using the wireless telephone, the terminal recognizes its connection status and the service provided by the base station (e.g., Japanese Patent Application laid open No. 2001-327979 (JP-A-11-327979)).
