This is particularly true in a case where a large number of such devices/systems are involved. Examples of such uses are security systems, power systems, communication systems, medical systems, and so on.
In a security system, an alarm can be triggered due to a variety of reasons. Such reasons could be, for example, an intrusion into a premises, a movement within a premises etc. Further, in different places within a premises, different sensors could be used to determine whether or not any of these conditions for triggering an alarm are met. One example of such an arrangement is a so called smart door, which has been used for a number of years, and which consists of a sensor, which measures the presence of people or objects in the space around the door. If the sensor detects a person or object, a signal indicating this is sent to a central control system. This signal is accompanied by a control unit number, so that all other sensors in the security system will know what type and number of control unit is present in the premises. The control unit can provide various functions, e.g. turning a light on or off when entering or leaving a premises or sensing a fire alarm when a smoke detector sounds an alarm.
Today’s security systems often utilise a plurality of sensors. For example, these could be smoke detectors, temperature sensors, motion sensors, door closures, etc.
In a traditional, central security system, a sensor, for example the aforementioned smart door, sends the corresponding control unit number to the central system, which in turn sends out the associated control signal containing this number, together with data/statics of its current state. This state can include a current time, when a specific event takes place.
In order to improve the accuracy of controlling a device, a control and monitoring device can be fitted with a number of sensors, for example a smoke detector and temperature sensor
